Large Corporations and SME’s: Employment Advantages Compared

If you are fortunate enough to be able to choose who you work for, you might want to consider the prospect of what kind of company you want to work for in terms of size. There are tremendous benefits to be had by working for large corporations vs working for a smaller SME, equally so, there is an argument to be had that an SME is the better place to work and here’s why.

The Benefits of Working for a Large Corporation

Nice to Have’s

When you work for a large company, there are many ‘perks’ to be had like organized days out, hotels paid for, company carsonnovated leasing, festive team occasions, there may even be a company credit card on offer or other financial incentives depending upon the employer.

WhateverYou Require

There is something to be said for having the proper resources to hand as and when you need them, it makes life that much easier. When you work for a large corporation, you will normally find that there are what may seem to be endless resources available to you!

Job Prospects

People tend to move around a lot more in larger companies, either internally or externally which means that there should be more job prospects available to you as people move around.

Stability

For the most part, larger, more well-established larger companies have a stronger foundation than smaller companies or fresh start ups so you should have a little more confidence that your business administration job will be safe.

The Benefits of Working for a Small Business

More Versatile

Purely because they don’t have as many processes and procedures in place as that of a large corporation, smaller companies tend to be more versatile which can be a major selling point for many a person. You should feel like you have more of a say in what goes on and things should change a little faster too!

Fresh, Creative Mindset

Overall, smaller companies tend to have a fresher, more creative mindset because they are new to the world of business. Whilst they may not have the same experience, they won’t be held back by some of the negative thinking that can take place in large corporations.

Lots of Opportunities

Although there may not be the same number of opportunities available to you, there will be far fewer people in the hierarchy tree so, your chances of working in a more senior position earlier on in your career are far more likely.

Community

You aren’t ‘just a number’, in a smaller company there will be more of a community feel to the place. Usually, they are a more personable, friendly, warmer place to be in terms of relationships and feeling that you are more than just a number.

The Choice Is Yours

If you’ve gotten this far then you probably have a much better idea of what the advantages are when it comes to working for a large corporation vs working for an SME, after all is said and done though, it’s a choice that only you can make.
