Sony Xperia L3 Review

Every company is trying to bring something new in the smartphone market- whether it is an in-fingerprint sensor, slider cameras, or 5G connectivity. But, it looks like Sony has still stuck to the conventional things. Sony’s new device Sony L3 is one such kind. With not notch, tall 18:9 screen, MediaTek P22 under the hood, decent cameras, and a full day of charge, this is what Sony L3 is in nutshell. But, is it the device people will like to buy? Are these conventional features going to attract an audience? Let’s check it out in the Sony Xperia L3 review below and you can easily buy this phone using Mobikwik Offers with a lot of discounts.

Design and Display

Sony Xperia L3 is taller than any other conventional smartphone we are seeing nowadays. It gets the 18:9 screen which is not common as we are in the habit of seeing 16:9 ones.

The device comes in the same price range of Moto G5 and honestly it doesn’t look as good as Moto G5. The back panel is glassy plastic kind of material and sides too look like aluminum which are actually not. The only thing great is 2.5D front glass which makes it look expensive.

There is a fingerprint scanner at the side- just another Dony thing. So, you can use it instead of a power button. So, there are both- power button and fingerprint. Weird!!

Sony Xperia L3 gets the volume controls low on the sides which is something a user won’t feel good about. The fingerprint sensor works pretty fine with just a tad bit of delay.

Coming to the display, the Sony Xperia L3 packs a 5.7-inch 720 x 1440 LCD screen with 1440 x 720-pixel resolution. The colors come out good but if it was an FHD screen, it must be another ball game together. Even Honor 10 Lite has a better and sharper display than this device. One more thing, Sony Xperia L3 is not having a notch. That sums it all- Sony is in its own league of making phones and is not going to give something new to the people.

Performance

Under the hood, the Sony Xperia L3 has a MediaTek MT6762 coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be further expanded up to 512GB via a microSD card. It is the same processor which was present in Nokia 3.1 Plus which scored 3,500 points on Geekbench 4. Yes, this might look good on paper as it will give you a smooth ride on the usage. But, when it comes to GPU, this device is a led down. It is not a gaming kind but you can play PUBG or Asphalt 8 with little stutters on medium or low graphics.

Camera

Coming to the cameras, the Sony Xperia L3 has a dual vertical rear camera setup including 13MP with an f/2.2 aperture as the primary camera and 2MP with an f/2.4 aperture as secondary camera setup. Sony’s device had an 8MP front-facing camera with f/2:0 aperture for selfies. Now, jumping to the performance, camera performance is neither bad nor too good. It gets a mixed bag. The photos came out are sharp and with high detailing and aesthetics but the absence of Auto HDR and overexposure ruins the things sometimes.  With solid detailing, the device lacks tad bit in night mode and night shots. The noise disturbs the pics sometimes. But, this is what you get with this processor and price. When it comes to selfies, the images were decent and clear.

Battery Life

The Sony Xperia L3 packs a high-capacity 3300mAh battery which is really great for a low-resolution device. You can easily get a day of juice if you use it for music, videos, and browsing too. It is really solid that way. Now, comparing it to Moto G7’s 5000mAh battery will be a little unfair to this device. Coming to the charging, the L3 charges slower than other devices. No fast charger ruins the things for it. If the company has used Qualcomm’s processor, it might have one fast charging option too.

Other Features

The Sony Xperia L3 runs Android v8.0 Oreo out of the box with custom Sony skin. The connectivity options and sensors include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth v5.00, NFC, USB Type-C, 3G, and 4G, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass/ magnetometer, proximity sensor, and fingerprint sensor.

Sony Xperia L3 is present in three color variants: Midnight Balck, Silver, and Dark Blue.

Final Verdict

The Sony Xperia L3 is a nice device- tad bit above average. It performs well, the camera is decent, full-day battery life and gaming is good enough too. But, the geez of going above in a single department or presenting something surprising is missing in this device. It is just a regular phone with not so best in class features. Especially when the Indian audience and others are now inclined towards the notch, why Sony is not trying to get one and enter the market. All said, the device is an okay-ish one which will not attract the audience towards itself.
