Hampta Pass Trek: Complete Guide, Route & Travel Tips

Hampta Pass Trek is one of the most stunning treks in Manali. Manali is a small town located at an elevation of 2,050 m above sea level. It is one of the best tourist places in Himachal Pradesh. There are several trek routes that exist from Manali, where Hampta Pass is one of them. This trek is perched at an elevation of 4,270 m. The trail is like a funnel shape with surroundings of snow-clad mountains and lush green valleys with enriched flora and fauna.

In terms of difficulty level, it is easy but full of thrill and adventure throughout the way. During the trek, you will pass through alpine meadows, forests of Deodar, and also experience several species of plants and wildflowers. Generally, it will take 5-6 days to complete the Chandratal trekking which is also an amazing sight. The Hampta Pass Trek route starts from Jobra, which is 18.5 Km. Then the first-day stay will be at Chika via Jobr. Second-day trekking will start from Chika to Balu ka Ghera. On the third day, you will trek to Hampta Pass from Balu ka Ghera, and then you will reach Siagoru.

This will be the most amazing day of trekking when you will experience the peaks of the Pir Panjal Range and Glaciers from the Hampta Pass. On day four, you will trek to Chatru from Siagoru, and on the same day, you will experience the majestic Chandratal Lake. For these four days, you will get the best trekking experience of your life.

How To Reach

 For trekking on the Hampta Pass Trek route, you have to reach Manali. Then from there, you have to reach Jobra. Manali is well connected with all major cities by road; however, there are other options also available.

By Road

There are regular bus services from Delhi and Chandigarh to reach Manali. You can choose government as well as private buses from there; other than this, you can hire a private tourist cab/taxi/tempo traveler.

    Manali is 305 km, and it will take 9-10 hrs to reach
  • Manali is 535 km away from
    Delhi and 12 hrs drive is required to reach there.

By Air

Bhuntar Airport, whose name is also Kullu Manali Airport. It is the only airport situated in this area. This airport is well-connected to all major airports via Delhi. There are flights from Delhi regularly. 

By Train

The nearest railway station is Chandigarh Railway Station, which is connected to all major stations through a strong rail network. After reaching Chandigarh, you can board the bus from Sector-43 Bus Terminal, or you can hire a private taxi/cab.

Day 3: Chika to Baku ka Ghera

Day 4: Balu ka Ghera to Siagoru via Hampta Pass

Best Time to Visit Hampta Pass Trek

The best time to visit the Hampta Pass Trek is mid-June to October, as the temperature remains moderate and the weather remains pleasant. During winters, you can also trek on the Hampta Pass, including Prini and Sethan villages. There will change in the route due to snowfall. If heavy snowfall occurs, then all routes remain closed. Apart from June to October, most of the time, the temperature remains below zero, which increases the difficulty of the trek so it is not recommended for trekking.

Some Conditions for Trekker

  • The beginner can trek on this route easily, the only condition is he/she must be physically fit.
  • This trek is not recommended for a person who has Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, asthma, Bronchitis, or other chronic diseases. 
  • The minimum age is 9-10 years to trek on this route with good physical fitness, as per this company.
